What is Debit Note?
GST Debit Note · डेबिट नोट
The mirror of a credit note — a supplementary document increasing tax payable on an earlier invoice.
If the original invoice understated value or tax — a missed line item, a rate applied too low — a debit note formally raises the amount. It references the same original invoice fields a credit note does and flows into returns the same way.
Buyers issue debit notes too, commonly against purchase orders or defective supplies received, signalling a claim. Context defines direction: supplier-issued debit notes increase output tax; buyer-issued ones record demands against suppliers.
