Merchant & QR
What is P2P vs P2M?
Person-to-Person vs Person-to-Merchant · P2P और P2M भुगतान
Two UPI flows: casual transfers between people (P2P) versus structured payments to registered merchants (P2M).
When you split a dinner bill with a friend, that is P2P. When you scan a shop's QR and the shop is registered as a merchant, that is P2M — routed with merchant metadata that enables zero-MDR treatment, dispute frameworks, and future credit products.
For a small business the distinction matters for credibility and accounting: registering as a merchant (even free tiers) marks your inflows as business revenue cleanly rather than mixing them with personal transfers.
P2P vs P2M: quick answers
Do I need merchant registration to accept payments?
Technically no — customers can pay any VPA. Registering unlocks P2M rails, better limits, and cleaner books though.
Are P2M payments slower or costlier?
Neither — same speed, zero MDR on standard UPI.
