Accepting direct bank transfers from clients, customers, or students can be tedious if you have to share your bank account number and IFSC code every time. Copying and pasting IFSC codes often leads to manual entry errors, delays, and transaction declines.

A faster, safer alternative is to create a UPI QR Code linked directly to your bank account.

In this guide, we will explain how UPI links bank accounts, how to locate your bank-issued UPI VPA, and how to generate a payment-ready QR code standee using a free universal QR code generator.

How UPI Connects to Your Bank Account

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It works by mapping your 11-digit IFSC code and bank account number to a simple, human-readable address called a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) or UPI ID (e.g. yourname@bank).

When someone scans your UPI QR code:

  1. The payment app reads the VPA stored inside the QR code.
  2. The app requests NPCI to resolve the VPA.
  3. NPCI matches the VPA to your linked bank account and routes the funds immediately via IMPS/UPI.
  4. The money lands in your bank account in real-time, 24/7.

Step 1: Find Your Bank Account UPI ID (VPA)

Every major Indian bank (such as SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, PNB) automatically sets up a UPI VPA for you when you register on their mobile app or popular apps like PhonePe, GPay, or Paytm.

Here is how to locate it:

  • SBI Users (YONO): Open YONO SBI → UPI Payments → Manage → My UPI ID. (Usually ends in @sbi).
  • HDFC Users: Open HDFC Mobile Banking → BHIM UPI → Manage VPAs. (Usually ends in @hdfcbank).
  • ICICI Users (iMobile): Open iMobile → BHIM UPI → Manage UPI IDs. (Usually ends in @icici).
  • PhonePe Users: Profile → QR Codes / UPI IDs. (Usually ends in @ybl, @axl, or @ibl).
  • Google Pay Users: Tap on your Profile picture (top right) → Bank Account → UPI ID. (Usually ends in @okaxis, @okhdfcbank, @okicici, or @oksbi).

Step 2: Generate the Bank Account QR Code

Once you have your VPA, you can construct a beautiful QR code poster for your cashier desk or invoice email.

  1. Go to the Pro UPI QR Generator on your device.
  2. Enter Payee Name: Input the exact account holder name registered with the bank.
  3. Enter UPI ID: Input the VPA you retrieved in Step 1.
  4. Choose Display Template: Select a styled border template like Shop Standee (for physical counters) or Minimalist Card (for digital sharing/invoices).
  5. Download and Test: Tap GenerateDownload Poster. Print this poster and perform a ₹1 test transfer to verify that it settles instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Can I receive payments directly into a current account or savings account?

Yes. You can link either a Savings Account or a Current Account to a UPI ID. The payment flow is identical. Business merchants should ideally link a Current Account to handle high-frequency transactions.

Q2. Do I need a business PAN or merchant account to create this?

No. You can generate a QR code for a personal savings bank account using your personal UPI ID. A merchant account is only required if you want to bypass standard P2P transaction limits or integrate an online checkout gateway.

Q3. Is it safe to share my UPI QR code publicly?

Yes. Sharing your UPI QR code is completely safe. It only permits incoming credit transactions (receiving money). No one can withdraw money or access your bank balance using your QR code or UPI ID.
